The Penladen detention camp in Penladen Hills was one of several Trade Federation prison camps built for the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY. After the raid on Theed, Captain Quarsh Panaka encharged six Palace Guards of the Royal Naboo Security Forces with liberating the camp. The Naboo forces assaulted the camp and took down the generator, while the captive citizens helped the guards by destroying the battle droids with their bare hands.
Retired Palace Guard Pars Varqom later recalled that the sight of the camp was "terrible," noting that battle droids were programmed to kill and thus had no idea of how to take care of people. Sickness and starvation ensued. Varqom compared the inmates' situation with that of penned shaaks.
Jason Fry, writer of The Essential Guide to Warfare, eventually cut any mentioning of Penladen detention camp in the final product. The camp was later made canonical in the StarWars.com blog post Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare: Author's Cut, Part 6 — Showdown at Naboo.
