The Radiant VII was a Consular-class space cruiser of the Galactic Republic. It transported Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi to the planet Naboo, where they were to negotiate with Viceroy Nute Gunray of the Trade Federation. The cruiser delivered the Jedi ambassadors on time, but was destroyed along with its crew by order of Darth Sidious, the Federation's secret master.
It was manufactured in the great orbital shipyards of Corellia.
For 34 years, the starship had been in the service of the Diplomatic Corps of Coruscant, the main world of the Galactic Republic, survived many adventures and transported Jedi Knights, ambassadors and diplomats on missions of great political importance to crisis hotspots across the galaxy. It was heavily armored, replaceable parlor pod was protected against any kind of eavesdropping—a safe place for important negotiations and averting crises.
The planet Naboo was part of the Galactic Republic, but it was located near the Outer Rim Territories, where Republic influence was minimal. Worlds without a strong military were especially vulnerable to attack and invasion. Since the Neimoidian homeland of Cato Neimoidia is also a member of the Republic, and the Neimoidians rarely got into trouble with the Republic, the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo surprised many Galactic Senate delegates. Dispatched by Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum to the blockaded planet Naboo, the Radiant VII brought two Jedi into the center of danger. When a Republic corvette brought Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi to a Trade Federation battleship in orbit around Naboo, the Jedi realised the threat of violent conflict if they fail to persuade the Neimoidians to retreat.
The Radiant VII first appeared in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
