Rebecca Guay began her career in illustration after graduating from Pratt Institute in 1992.
By the summer of 1993 she was working as a full time penciler for DC/Vertigo's monthly series Black Orchid, as well as painting trading cards for both DC Comics and Topps Inc (Star Wars, Predator, Vampirella) and publishing regularly with Cricket Magazine. After Black Orchid she went on to paint cover work for Scholastic and Simon & Schuster, as well as illustrating fully painted graphic novels for Acclaim (Magic, the Homelands and The Serra Angel), Vertigo and DC Comics (Sandman: Destiny Book III, Veils, Green Lantern: Emerald Nights).
It was her first graphic novel which brought her work to the attention of Wizards of the Coast. Her first Magic cards appeared in Alliances. She has painted over 140 magic cards, and has been invited to travel to Japan, France, Australia and throughout the United States the sign cards and meet the players. As well as being published extensively throughout the fantasy gaming industry (Dungeons and Dragons, Changeling and Mage) she has also painted book covers for the work of Ursula K Le Guin, Bruce Coville, Jane Yolen, Jackie French Koller, Susan Fletcher and Dia Calhoun and Louise Hawes. Her work has been published in Spectrum and been displayed in the Society of Illustrators Spectrum exhibit in September 2005.
In 2003 her first children's book, "Goddesses: A World of Myth and Magic" (written by Burliegh Muten) was published by Barefoot Books and received critical praise. Goddesses was chosen as one of the "Top 72 Books for children 7-12" by BookSense the year of its publication. With the publication of Goddesses Rebecca's illustration was acquired for gallery representation by the R. Michelson, joining the ranks of other Michelson gallery artists Barry Moser, Jane Dyer, Dr Seuss, Maurice Sendak, Mordicia Gerstein and Trina Shart Hyman and more.
"Ballet Stories" (written By Jane Yolen, and Heidi Stemple) was published in 2004 by Barefoot Books, it has been published in Italy, Britain, Greece, and Korea and is in its fifth printing. Her most recent illustrated books are "Muti's Necklace" (written by Louis Hawes) was published in June 2006 by Houghton Mifflin, Beauty and the Beast (2007, Fernliegh Books) and Black Pearls (Louise Hawes, Houghton Mifflin, 2008).
Rebecca lives with her husband Matthew and young daughter Vivian and a small Victorian farmhouse. She shares her studio with her husband, who is also an artist.
