The Rebel battle armor was developed for light, modern combat and was often worn by a soldier needing to retain their agility. It offered protection against kinetic damage as well as from energy-based weapons like blasters. The armor was designed to help ensure the survival of Rebel infantry during direct confrontation against an overwhelming number of Imperial troops. The complete armor set was composed of the helmet, chest plate, left & right biceps, left & right bracers, gloves, leggings and boots. The helmet itself included a full-face visor, a neck scarf, a breath mask and a respirator.

History

Following the Battle of Yavin, the Rebel battle armor was worn by Rebel heavy troopers, Rebel Alliance Honor Guards, Rebel Assault Commandos, and Rebel Desert Troopers. A battle armor was also used by Rebel trooper Mika Horn.

In 1 ABY, a spacer retrieved the nine parts of a Rebel battle armor while visiting multiple worlds in the galaxy and finally assembled the complete armor.

Behind the scenes

The Rebel battle armor appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011. The Rebel battle armor was one of the Rebel faction armors added to the game with the release of the "Combat Upgrade," on April 27, 2005.
