During the Republic Fair on the Outer Rim planet Valo in 231 BBY, the delegate spoke with Jedi Master Stellan Gios for over half an hour about the intricacies of removing carbon scoring as part of starship maintenance. Though Gios feigned interest, he grew disinterested and sought a way to end the conversation.
Eventually, Gios suggested that Retar visit the Secrets of the Jedi exhibition at the fair, signaling for his colleague—the Jedi archivist OrbaLin—to escort the delegate to it, indicating that Retar might be particularly interested in the Cassadrean Matrix artifact. Despite the Ardennian's eagerness to continue talking about ship maintenance, OrbaLin guided Retar away, with Gios watching the pair depart.
