The Ritual of the Power of the Dark was a Force-based rite drawn from ancient Sith teachings that could be used to generate the power to turn a ch'hala tree to the dark side of Force. Around 19 BBY, Len Markus, the leader of the Believers Sith cult shared information on the ritual with the Wyrd, a coven of Tarasin Force witches from the planet Cularin. The First Witch of the Wyrd, the leader of the witches, devised to use the ritual to force Cularin's World Tree Ch'hala to embrace the dark side and submit to the Wyrd's control. The witches were uncertain whether the ritual would succeed at corrupting the ch'hala and the witch Cheelru opposed its use, but was imprisoned by the First Witch after voicing her concerns.
After infecting the ch'hala with a plague to render it sick and afraid, the witches launched the ritual to push the ch'hala permanently to the dark side. A group of senior Wyrd witches gathered around a sapling next to the ch'hala Heart Tree and the First Witch struck a meter-long, black metallic rod into the tree and chanted in an archaic form of Tarasin speech, while focussing their power. The rite caused a purple-colored glow to be emitted from the wounded sapling and over a period of eleven hours the witches continued the ritual. However, the witches were forced to abandon the ritual after falling under attack from a group of freelance agents.
