Rocket boosters, also called rocket thrusters or jets, were twin devices that allowed R2 series astromech droids to fly through the air. The famous droid R2-D2 was equipped with such boosters, and he put them to good use throughout the Clone Wars. However, by the time of the Galactic Civil War, R2-D2's boosters had not worked in ages, and his warranty was long expired, having been damaged at some point after the Clone Wars. Despite this fact, R2-D2 was briefly able to get them working again while visiting Endor during the First Order-Resistance war. Also during The Clone Wars two other droids U9-C4 and QT-KT featured rocket boosters they used to get back to their shuttle to escape The Renown. During the Age of the Empire, the C1-series astromech droid Chopper also had a single rocket booster. The dangerous deadly assassin droid BT-1 was equipped with a set of rocket boosters. During The New Republic era the R5-series astromech droid R5-D4 featured a set of rocket boosters that he used to enter and escape Gideon's underground
