Roger Christian (born February 25, 1944) was the set decorator for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and the second unit director for both Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace (the former of which was uncredited). In 1978 he won the Academy Award for Best Production Design for his work on A New Hope. He also directed Black Angel, a short film that was shown before the theatrical release of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back in certain locales. Christian later indicated in a 2014 interview that he was the third crew member to actually be cast for the project.
Outside of Star Wars, Roger has also done second unit direction for one of the Young Indiana Jones movie compilations, done art direction for Alien and Life of Brian and directed the critically despised film Battlefield Earth.
