The outside of the arena was made up of large rock pillars that were also used for important guests to observe the action. The stands in the arena went up six rows.
In 34 ABY, during a Resistance mission to the planet Mon Cala, Jedi apprentice Rey fought the Quarren Chadkol Gee's personal security droid, Arkay-Nine, in the sacred arena to settle a debate after she and other Resistance operatives were accused of an attack by a Quarren mob.
The droid got Rey to the ground and opened fire on her, as Rey ordered the cheering crowd to get down. Fellow Resistance operative Rose Tico told the Wookiee Chewbacca to help Rey destroy the droid before any more bystanders were hurt. Rey used the Force to push a Mon Calamari Guard member out of the way of the blaster fire as she ordered the crowd to leave the arena. The droid continued to fire at Rey, until Arkay-Nine's head was shot off by Tico. But due to Tico's interference in the duel, the Resistance operatives were forced to exile from Mon Cala by King Ech-Char.
