Star Wars Saga Edition is the final roleplaying game system released by Wizards of the Coast in 2007 with its production lasting until 2010. Its Star Wars Roleplaying Game Saga Edition Core Rulebook features a new game system from the previous system, the Revised Core Rulebook. It was called "Saga Edition" because it was the first game to span the complete Star Wars film saga, encompassing all six feature films from Episode I The Phantom Menace to Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Wizards of the Coast's entire Star Wars roleplaying production line ran from 2000 until 2010. After that, the license was granted to Fantasy Flight Games in 2011, who began work on a new roleplaying system called Star Wars: Edge of the Empire.
As in all of Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars roleplaying games, Saga Edition's game rules are based on the d20 System similar to the third and fourth edition of Dungeons and Dragons.
Wizards of the Coast produced a total of 14 books for the Saga Edition. Also released during the Saga Edition production era was Dawn of Defiance, a campaign comprising ten downloadable adventures designed as one story arc that takes characters from level 1 to the maximum level 20. Also released were a great many web supplements, including Jedi Counseling articles, of which articles #100-115 dealt with Saga Edition, and a Saga Edition Conversion Guide, which showed how to convert characters from the previous Revised Core Rulebook to Saga Edition.
The Core Rulebook won a number of ENnie awards, including Gold in the "Best Game" category and the "Best Rules" category, as well as Silver for "Product of the Year" in 2008. The Clone Wars Campaign Guide won a Silver in "Best Supplement" in 2009.
