The Sarnikken Asteroid Belt consisted of a collection of asteroids located within the Fakir sector. These asteroids were rich in heavy metals, leading to intense competition among mining companies for their control. During the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire sought to seize control of these valuable mines, but Imperial authorities frequently vanished. The high density of the asteroid belt made navigation challenging for larger ships. Although the Empire tried to enforce a blockade outside the asteroid field, a limited number of vessels hampered their efforts.
The Alliance to Restore the Republic obtained unprocessed resources for their ships by buying them from the miners operating there. The X-wings belonging to Reekeene's Roughnecks frequently provided escort for the Rebel transports that were heavily loaded with mined goods. Both space slugs and mynocks were known to dwell within the numerous asteroids comprising the Sarnikken belt.
