At Garel City Spaceport, C-3PO, R2-D2 and BB-8 were sent on an undercover mission to the planet Garel for the Resistance. They were ordered to stay on the starship by General Leia Organa.
After Organa left, R2-D2 proclaimed himself leader of the mission. He then played a message he had intercepted. It was a call for help to the Resistance from a leader of a team of soldiers who were willing to fight the First Order but needed transport off Garel. C-3PO did not trust the message but R2 and BB-8 did not listen and headed out to the coordinates sent in the message.
Throughout Garel City, C-3PO and the other droids kept getting into trouble trying to hide from the First Order stormtroopers patrolling the area. C-3PO was still reluctant to carry out the mission, but his fellow droids once again did not care and kept moving. They quickly made their way past the stormtroopers and to the coordinates from the message.
The building was pretty empty, and the droids could not find any soldiers inside. R2 and BB-8 sent C-3PO to investigate, but then a young Duros girl jumped out and shot the protocol droid with her slingshot. The girl apologized for hitting him because she thought they were part of the First Order. C-3PO asked about the message, and the girl told them that she had made the message up because she needed the Resistance's help.
The First Order had developed a new communications system that could control all of Garel's transmissions, which would allow for the First Order to rule the whole planet. The girl knew how to stop the system and introduced herself as Likana. C-3PO didn't know if they could trust Likana after she lied to them, but she told them that they had to listen even if she was only a kid. C-3PO could relate to her for being ignored, and the droids agreed to help her.
