Semako Thalien was a business magnate who lived during the Mandalorian Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian warrior culture. Thalien and a number of other wealthy businesspeople were aboard a refugee transport fleeing raiders when they crash-landed on the previously undiscovered planet of Makeb. Thalien assumed a leadership role among the survivors as they established settlements and made contact with the rest of the galaxy, leading them in developing a thriving economy based on Makeb's rich mineral deposits within the next fifty years.
Semako Thalien was first mentioned in the Codex entry "History of Makeb" in Rise of the Hutt Cartel, the 2013 digital expansion to the 2011 BioWare video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Semako shares a surname with another character from the Mandalorian Wars, Jervo Thalien, who was created by John Jackson Miller for the 2006 comic series Knights of the Old Republic, but no relation between the two was ever established.
