Behind the scenes

The sled first appeared as a sandboard in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens which was co-written and directed by J.J. Abrams. In Star Wars Legends, sleds were first mentioned in the 2015 sourcebook Strongholds of Resistance and also appeared in the non-canon novel Jedi Academy: Return of the Padawan.
