A slingshot maneuver was a battle tactic developed by Grand Admiral Thrawn during the Imperial–Grysk conflict. The maneuver required the tractor beams of a capital ship to propel an object or starfighters toward the enemy past the ship's bow. Grand Admiral Thrawn used it to sneak his TIE fighters to attack range of Grysk warships unseen to gather data and as a preparation for an attack. The tactic was soon after also employed by two of Thrawn's protégées, Commodore Karyn Faro in the battle against Grand Admiral Balanhai Savit, and Lieutenant Eli N. Vanto while fighting Grysks.
