A space shear was a type of spatial anomaly found near atmospheric storms which was encountered in space. Some shears were strong enough to destroy a class-A cruiser, and due to this risk of destruction, pilots would alter their courses by thousands of kilometers in order to avoid a shear.
In their escape from Imperial starfighters on the planet of Acherin, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ferus Olin, Raina Quill, Toma, and Trever Flume encountered space shears on the edge of one such atmospheric storm. This storm, however, surrounded an asteroid which would later serve as a sanctuary for survivors of Order 66, and the Great Jedi Purge.
