A spectrum laser was a type of laser used by various military groups in the Unknown Regions. The starships of the Chiss Ascendancy utilized spectrum lasers, as did the warships of the Paataatus, the vessels of the Garwian Unity and the Nikardun Destiny. At a distance, spectrum lasers were ineffective against ships equipped with electrostatic barriers.
The defining characteristic of spectrum lasers was that they could quickly shift their energy frequencies to whatever would be best absorbed by the material they were focused on. Spectrum lasers could be used to perform a "light show."
