Disney streamed an alternative version for awards consideration:
The CD release includes liner notes with 18 pages of photos from the film, as well as images on the front and back covers. The notes also include a track listing and complete credits, as well as a two page message from the film's director, J.J. Abrams, who recalls listening to film soundtracks by John Williams in his childhood and soundly praises both the soundtrack and the man himself, despite his suspicion that Steven Spielberg may have been overselling what knowing Williams was actually like.
The soundtrack was re-released as a 2-LP vinyl version on June 17, 2016, and features hand-etched 3D holograms of a TIE fighter and the Millennium Falcon, requiring a direct light source to view. The set also includes liner notes by the film's director, J.J. Abrams, in a 16-page booklet.
