The Storini Crystal Deceiver was a fictional creature created by Ton Phanan, Garik Loran and Kell Tainer in retaliation for fellow squadron member Eurrsk Thri'ag's constant pranks on them. The retaliation was specifically for slipping a Storini glass prowler into the cockpit of Loran's X-Wing, hoping that he would be surprised by the insect's appearance mid flight.
Unknown to him, Phanan had also taken a glass prowler as a pet during the same mission where Thri'ag acquired his and Loran, being Panan's wingman, was familiar with the insect. Thus when the creature crawled on him during flight, he initially mistook it for Ton's pet. After the mission they realized it wasn't and deduced that the Bothan slicer must be the prankster who had been victimizing the squadron, as he would be the only member able to obtain the access codes for another's craft.
To make the prank believable, Loran created a false entry on the Night Caller's encyclopedia records for the Crystal Deceiver, stating that it was a dangerous predator with venomous fangs that was almost identical to the harmless glass prowler. Tainer built a small machine that made a scratching noise, similar to the glass prowler's and it was put in Thri'ag's quarters while he was sleeping. After walking around trying to find the insect, Thri'ag ran into the machine and fainted in fear.
