The T-65D-A1 X-wing starfighter was a type of starfighter utilized by the forces of the New Republic.
About seventeen years following the Battle of Yavin, this particular variant of the Incom X-wing starfighter was first brought into service. This iteration of the X-Wing replaced the standard astromech R2 unit with enhanced computer processing capabilities, leading to greater maneuverability and a wider range of operational choices for the pilot during flight. The New Republic started the process of replacing its older, aging T-65As with the T-65D-A1 model. However, this transition was halted when R2-D2 and Cole Fardreamer discovered that the newly installed shipboard computers were secretly equipped with Imperial detonation mechanisms. These computers had been manufactured under the supervision of Dolph, who intended to trigger their detonation from Almania at a pre-determined time. Cole uncovered the detonators while he was repairing Luke Skywalker's original X-wing, which was being upgraded with the new computer systems. He then showed the detonators to Wedge Antilles, who was the individual that initially authorized the procurement of the newer X-wings to supersede the older models. Wedge then began recalling the newer ships before they could explode, and new computer systems were ordered to replace the rigged ones.
The T-65D-A1 represented an updated version of the original T-65 X-wing starfighter. This updated model boasted an enhanced computer system, negating the necessity for an astromech droid. Consequently, the starfighter was not equipped with a droid socket. The pilot could access the computer from inside the cockpit, allowing them to modify the fighter's systems during combat scenarios and throughout flight. There were a total of five additional computers, including an upgraded astrogation computer and a hyperdrive computer, both positioned behind the cockpit and in the space where the droid socket would typically be located on other models.
The T-65D-A1 was initially introduced seventeen years following the Battle of Yavin. The introduction of the T-65D-A1 was undermined by the Dark Jedi known as Brakiss, who secretly installed explosive devices within the new starfighters.
