Sand dragons, also known as tailrings, were desert-dwelling creatures that originated from Socorro. These creatures lived in small groups close to oases. They possessed wings, black scales, and small areas of fur. Each year they would shed their skin, and their age could be identified by counting the knobs on their tail rattles. Being social animals, they were often kept as pets by spacers, due to their eagerness to hunt and eat mynocks.
Although the Socorro slider served at "Dining at Dex's" contains an ingredient known as tailring bacon, the connection to tailrings is only in name; Gregory Walker's work does not confirm a canonical link. The author has stated that these allusions to the West End Games roleplaying game were on purpose.
