Thared was a Force-sensitive Barabel who served the Galactic Federation Triumvirate as a Master of the Imperial Knights. Around 139 ABY, Thared accompanied Empress Marasiah Fel when she led Triumvirate forces to the rogue planet Mala, where they confronted the acolytes of the One Sith. As Fel and Thared watched the battlefield below them aboard the shuttle Neuer, the Empress decided to join the battle herself after the Barabel informed her that their reinforcements would not be arriving soon. Despite Thared's protest out of fear for Fel's safety, the two soon landed on the planet surface along with their stormtrooper guards. Under the Empress's command, the Triumvirate emerged victorious in the battle with the demise of all Sith combatants.
Thared possessed dark green eyes and green skin. As an Imperial Knight, the Barabel wore the standard red armor, including black gloves and cape, and carried a lightsaber.
Thared appeared in the eighteenth and final issue of the 2013 Star Wars: Legacy comic-book series, which was written by Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman, illustrated by Brian Albert Thies, and published by Dark Horse Comics on August 27, 2014. The character was named after brothers Jared and Theo Peppard, two Star Wars fans, upon the former's fan email to Bechko, asking the author if she could use a combination of their names for a minor character. Although the series was close to being finalized at that point, Bechko managed to find a role the character could fill and later stated that she was glad that role was a "heroic person" rather than a villain. Additionally, Hardman clarified that Thared was a member of the Barabel species in response to a fan question about whether the character was a Barabel or a Trandoshan on TheForce.net's Jedi Council Forums.
