Thought Dowsers were powerful devices that were supposedly made of a material that amplified one's thoughts. An artifact of the dark side cult known as the Ascendant, the thought dowser was also used by Sith to teach their apprentices to compel and manipulate others. The devices could be operated by anyone, though they were most powerful when wielded by Force-sensitives. Long after the time of The Ascendant, one thought dowser was possessed by the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate, which held it in a gallery aboard its fortress-flagship, Vermillion. When the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra and her associates came under fire from Crimson Dawn guards while attempting to retrieve a data crystal necklace from the gallery, Aphra noticed the thought dowser, using her electro-tattoos to activate it. Wielding the thought dowser, Aphra, unable to fully control herself, compelled the Crimson Dawn assassin Deathstick and several guards to stab themselves. Unbeknownst to her, the dormant Spark Eternal was able to sense her using the device, as it had interfaced with Ascendant technology in the past. She was able to break free from the device, though it burned her arm and fried her electro-tattoos. Aphra and her associates subsequently escaped, leaving the thought dowser behind.
