Although unarmed, this class of freighters were equipped with deflector shields. These freighters could also unload its cargo in flight, and some were known to be completely automated. They were also capable of docking with the larger Trade Federation Superfreighter.
A number of these freighters were in a convoy that the pirate captain Nym attacked in 32 BBY over Lok. A small convoy of two Trade Federation Freighters were carrying war supplies from Eos when they were caught in an attack spearheaded by Rhys Dallows and Reti. The freighters countered by ejecting mines but were still destroyed. Later, freighters of this type were part of another convoy that was destroyed over Naboo by Nym and his allies.
By 22 BBY, these freighters were still a common sight in the Karthakk system. A large number of Trade Federation Freighters were seen leaving Mount Merakan carrying materials needed for the Trade Federation's production of Trihexalon. Nym and his fellow pirate Jinkins attacked the last of the freighters to leave the mountain. Not long after, three were seen at the Battle of Nod Kartha attempting to reach the planet, but were destroyed by Adi Gallia.
Trade Federation Freighters appear in the 2001 video game Star Wars: Starfighter and its 2002 sequel, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter.
