Trans-binary deflectors were devices used to protect lifeforms from cosmic radiation. In 34 ABY, when the supertanker fuel depot Colossuss trans-binary deflector was in danger of failing, crewmembers Kazuda Xiono, Neeku Vozo, and CB-23 infiltrated the First Order supertanker fuel depot Titan to steal a deflector from there. The trio located their target in the space station's Engineering section and was able to steal a trans-binary deflector and get away with it.
Trans-binary deflectors were a kind of technology designed to protect organic lifeforms from being killed by cosmic radiation. Appearing roughly cylindrical with metal and yellow-green features, they were installed in terminals on space stations such as supertanker fuel depots. The deflectors had to be turned offline before removal.
In 34 ABY, the supertanker fuel depot Colossuss trans-binary deflector was in danger of failing and putting the people on board at risk. To remedy the situation, three crewmembers—the Resistance operative Kazuda Xiono, the engineer Neeku Vozo, and the BB-series astromech droid CB-23—went and infiltrated the Titan, a supertanker fuel depot that was under the control of the First Order, to steal a working one as quickly as possible.
Onboard the Titan, Xiono, Vozo, and CB-23 worked under disguises and located the trans-binary deflectors in the hyperdrive room of the station's Engineering section, learning how they had to be made offline first. Xiono and Vozo thus went and turned off the deflectors from the engine room before meeting CB-23 in Engineering. Vozo rerouted power from the terminal, allowing Xiono to pull one of the trans-binary deflectors from it. However, the First Order TIE Fighter Pilot Jace Rucklin caught the pair in the process, and reported them to the station's security. Loading the deflector into his pack, Xiono and his companions made a swift escape from the Titan under pursuit from First Order stormtroopers, and returned to the Colossus.
Trans-binary deflectors first appeared in "Station to Station," the eleventh episode of the second season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which aired on December 15, 2019. Concept art for the technology was drawn by Lucasfilm Animation artist Colas Gauthier.
