At some point during or before 10 BBY, the crime lord Dryden Vos of Crimson Dawn plundered the temple, obtaining a stone slab carved with the warding spells and an inscription reading "Our temple honouring Sith Lord Exar Kun." Vos had the obsidian mounted into a desk which he kept in his study aboard the yacht First Light.
The temple was first mentioned, albeit in an untranslated inscription, in the 2018 Star Wars Anthology film Solo: A Star Wars Story, and was identified as a Sith temple in the accompanying reference book Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo. In concept art for Solo, the temple Vos plundered was identified as the Sith temple of Exar Kun. The temple's connection to Kun was confirmed as canon when Twitter user AurekFonts translated the slab's inscription.
The 2016 reference book Star Wars: Galactic Atlas contains an illustration of a building resembling the depiction of the Temple of Exar Kun from the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies. The 2021 reference book "Scarif and Other Planets in the Outer Rim," a part of De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series contains the Ralph McQuarrie depiction of the temple from the 1995 reference book The Illustrated Star Wars Universe. However, no connection has been made between the structures.
In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Temple of Exar Kun first appeared in the 1994 novel Dark Apprentice, written by Kevin J. Anderson.
