An imitation lightsaber was owned by Baron Orman Tagge in 0 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War. Tagge had the lightsaber constructed as an imitation of the weapons once carried by Jedi Knights, hoping to use it in lightsaber combat against Darth Vader.
Orman Tagge, the head of the Tagge family, chose to conduct the experiments that led to the saber's creation on the planet Tatooine. Those experiments were performed by the Tagge Company under the auspices of head of science Silas Tagge, the brother of Orman. Orman explained to Silas that the experiments were performed on Tatooine in part to draw the attention of the Rebel Alliance member and Jedi aspirant Luke Skywalker. Tatooine was Skywalker's homeworld, and Orman sought to lure Skywalker back to attract the attention of Darth Vader, against whom Orman sought revenge.
Eventually this lightsaber saw its use when Orman Tagge dueled the Rebel Luke Skywalker aboard the Tagge Company Mining Explorer. Tagge managed to hold his own against Skywalker and briefly overpowered him until the young Jedi skillfully defeated Tagge by slicing his goggles in half, which left the Baron in shock.
The lightsaber first appeared in the thirty-first issue of Marvel Comics 1977 comic series entitled Star Wars. The issue was first made available to purchase on October 23, 1979.
