According to the human House of Tagge member Ronen Tagge, a space pirate lived many, many generations before 3 ABY. At some point, the pirate was in possession of the Ring of Immortality, one of the set of artifacts known as the Rings of Vaale. According to legend, if the Ring of Immortality was worn alongside the Ring of Fortune—the other Ring of Vaale—the wearer was promised eternal life, as well as incredible fortune and limitless power. Eventually, the ring was acquired from the pirate by a member of the House of Tagge, and by 3 ABY, it was in Ronen Tagge's possession, who considered the pirate to be infamous. That year, he informed the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra and her crew of the Ring of Immortality's history, including how the space pirate had lost the ring to his relative.
