Vahl

Vahl was a deity worshiped by the cult known as the Ember of Vahl. She was an embodiment of fiery destruction brought about by the dark side of the Force. Members of the cult who drew upon their faith in their goddess could manifest such abilities as entering a meditative trance by staring into a flame, becoming resistant to the effects of fire and heat, and imbuing their weapons with the sparks and flames of Vahl. The deity was commonly depicted as a mature female Vahla—a member of a nomadic near-Human, Force-sensitive species that, as a whole, was innately affected by the dark side of the Force. Such depictions often portrayed the goddess as possessing flowing ash-white hair and smoldering black eyes.

Members of the Ember of Vahl were primarily Vahla. The cultists' faith led them to eschew advanced weaponry in favor of more simple one; sacrifice abducted people to their goddess; and treat the rare Vahla born with red hair as being blessed by Vahl. The cult was led by the coven of six priests known as the Chosen of Vahl. They were considered true disciples of the deity and displayed their faith and devotion by scarring themselves. The Chosen of Vahl used farseeing to consult with their goddess.

The ancestors of the Ember of Vahl were decadent and twisted individuals whose lives revolved around service to Vahl and involved dark side–driven destructive tendencies. Eventually, several millennia prior to 137 ABY, the Force-sensitive members of the Jedi Order, which adhered to the light side of the Force, decimated the worshipers of Vahl. The descendants of that society became interstellar nomads who endlessly searched for their lost homeworld. It was believed that Vahl herself had originally been a powerful Vahla Force adept who had led her people in assuming control over their homeworld prior to being destroyed by the Jedi.

Vahl was introduced in the 2009 sourcebook Legacy Era Campaign Guide, published by Wizards of the Coast for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game.
