The Warbird gang was a gang of pirates led by Captain Kragan Gorr that was active during the era of the New Republic, and secretly worked under the First Order. As part of their arrangement, the gang staged attacks on the Colossus refueling station on the planet Castilon, while the First Order publicly acted against the pirates.
The Warbirds' alliance with the First Order collapsed after the latter hired the pirates to kidnap Captain Imanuel Doza's daughter Torra Doza as a means of convincing them to accept First Order protection. The Warbirds subsequently joined forces with Team Colossus to expel First Order forces and subsequently escaped into space.
The gang also assisted in salvaging the remains of the Fulminatrix over D'Qar and hunting a massive jakoosk on Celsor 3. Relations between the Warbirds and Captain Doza soured after the First Order agent Nenavakasa Nalor blamed the Warbirds for stealing the station's power as part of a plot to capture the Colossus. Later Kragan attempted a mutiny on the Colossus but was foiled by Synara, Neeku Vozo, and Kazuda Xiono. At the advice of Synara, the pirates were exiled from the Colossus.
The Warbirds were a multi-species pirate gang. They owned several starships and other vehicles including starfighters, speeder bikes, and airspeeders. The Warbirds operated from a sail barge called the Galleon. which was also capable of hyperspace travel.
During the New Republic era, the Warbird gang was a group of pirates led by Captain Kragan Gorr that operated on the oceanic world of Castilon. They were hired by the First Order to raid the Colossus refueling platform. The First Order wanted to convince Captain Imanuel Doza, the ruler of the Colossus to accept First Order protection. In truth, they wanted to use the Colossus as a military supply line as part of their invasion of the galaxy.
A pirate named Hallion Nark visited the Colossus under the pretext of seeking repairs to his starship. In secret, he informed Kragan about an approaching triple dark storm. The Warbirds attacked under the storm cover and managed to inflict some damage. However, they were forced to retreat when the Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono jammed their communications, forcing them to cut off the attack. Kragan had Nark punished for losing his comlink and jeopardizing their mission.
Later, several Warbirds including Synara San raided a Darius G-class fighter in the Castilon system's Sector six. However, the freighter was carrying several Kowakian ape-lizards, which attacked the pirates and devoured at least two members. Synara survived because she managed to hide in a crate. Synara was rescued by Xiono and Resistance Commander Poe Dameron, who brought her back to the Colossus. As a result, Captain Kragan gained a spy aboard the Colossus.
Synara found work as a scavenger in the Colossus loading docks, which allowed her to maintain her cover as a pirate spy. After Synara learned that the Colossus' turbolaser defense system was down and that Ace Squadron was away, Synara contacted Captain Kragan. Synara also supplied Kaz and his Team Fireball with a tri-tracker chip for the turbolaser system's tracking computer. Kragan and the Warbirds launched a daylight raid on the Colossus.
Despite fierce resistance from the pirates, Kaz and Yeager managed to restore the tracking computer into the turbolaser system, forcing the pirates to retreat. Synara also managed to maintain her cover and struck a friendship with Tamara Ryvora, who helped her to fight off pirates in the Colossus loading docks. This raid led Captain Doza to reconsider the First Order's protection offer.
Later, Synara supplied the Colossus merchants Flix and Orka with a chest of thermal detonators, which they accidentally activated. Synara offered to sell them a new chest as compensation.
Prior to the Bibo incident, Captain Kragan contacted Synara and warned her that the two pilots who brought her to the Colossus including Kaz were from the Resistance. Synara took Kaz out on her salvaging skiff to sea in order to question him. However, they were interrupted by a giant sea monster known as the rokkna, which turned out to be Bibo's mother who was seeking her child Bibo. Kaz and Synara managed to warn Captain Doza, who shielded the Colossus and dispatched Ace Squadron. Bibo's mother withdrew after Kaz's colleague and friend Neeku Vozo returned the infant to her.
In an attempt to convince Captain Doza to accept First Order "protection," Commander Pyre hired Captain Kragan to kidnap his daughter Torra Doza. Kragan agreed in return for Pyre tripling their payment. Kragan sent Drell and Valik in a shipping container and tasked Synara San with smuggling them into Doza Tower, the Doza family residence.
Though Valik and Drell managed to kidnap Torra, Synara experienced a change of heart and managed to alert Kaz and Captain Doza. Despite efforts by Kaz and Ace Squadron to pursue the pirates, Valik and Drell managed to bring Torra aboard the Galleon. When Major Elrik Vonreg and several stormtroopers arrived to parley with Kragan, they instead rescued Torra and turned on the Warbirds. As a result, Kragan declared that the Warbirds' alliance with the First Order was over. Following the kidnapping attempt, Kaz came to suspect that Synara was connected to the pirates.
After the First Order occupied the Colossus, Synara San found it difficult to get off the refueling platform due to a First Order lockdown. After the First Order launched a manhunt for her, Synara found help from an unlikely source: Kaz. Though Kaz had realized that she was a member of the Warbird pirate gang, he decided to help escape because he regarded her as a friend. With the help of Kaz, Neeku, and BB-8, Synara managed to flee to the lower levels of the ship and escaped in an escape pod. Synara then rendezvoused with Kragan's skiff at sea.
During a mission to contact the Resistance, Kaz's transmission was picked up by Valik who played it to Kragan and the other pirates including Synara.
After intercepting a transmission from Kazuda Xiono about the First Order's occupation of the Colossus, the Warbird gang joined forces with Team Colossus during the escape of the space station in an effort to get back at the Order for betraying them. The gang and resistance group ultimately succeeded in escaping aboard the Colossus.
Following the Colossus' departure into space, Kragan Gorr and his pirates socialized with the Colossus residents in Aunt Z's Tavern despite the zero gravity space. Meanwhile, the First Order launched a hunt for the Colossus, seeking to recover the station for the First Order or to destroy it if recover proved impossible.
With the Colossus experiencing a shortage of basic supplies, Kaz and Synara managed to convince Kragan and the Warbirds to assist with a mission to salvage coaxium from the remains of the Fulminatrix over D'Qar in return for obtaining weapons and technology from the wrecked ship. Though the Colossus was pursued by the Thunderer, they managed to recover the coaxium, allowing the Colossus to escape into hyperspace.
Later, the Warbirds accompanied Kaz and Torra on a hunting expedition on the planet Celsor 3 to hunt for a large jakoosk. At the suggestion of Skreek, the pirates began hurling explosives onto the surface in order to lure out the creature. However, the jakoosk attacked them, downing Snarl and Drell's airspeeder. Though the pirates gave up, Kaz, Torra, and CB-23 managed to return and hunt down the jakoosk with the help of Buggles. Snarl and Drell stole Kaz and Torra's starships but were later forced to apologize by Synara, Kaz's closest friend among the pirates.
The First Order hired a Nikto engineer Nenavakasa Nalor managed to sow a wedge between the Warbird pirates and the Colossus residents by fabricating evidence that the pirates had been siphoning energy from the ship. Falling for Nena's sabotage plot, Captain Doza sent Kaz to investigate the matter. However, Synara caught him and managed to convince him to investigate Nena. The two discovered that Nena was a saboteur hired by the First Order but the Nikto managed to escape. When the First Order caught up with the Colossus, Kaz managed to convince Kragan to unplug the pirate's power source in order to help the station escape the First Order.
Later, the Nikto pirate Leoz, who was jealous of Kaz's winning streak, cursed him during a gambling game. This led Kaz to interpret a series of accidents as a sign that he was cursed, something which was reinforced by his superstitious friend Neeku Vozo. After failing to get Leoz to lift the curse, Kaz managed to overcome his anxieties about the curse with the help of Mika Grey, who gave him a talisman. Kaz then played a prank on the superstitious Leoz.
Due to her skills with the gun and close friendship with Kaz, Kaz and Yeager enlisted Synara as a gunslinger for their mission to rescue the Duros Resistance agent Norath Kev on the planet Varkana. This brought them into conflict with the bounty hunter Ax Tagrin, who fought with Synara and Yeager.
Tagrin managed to capture Synara along with Yeager and the astromech droid CB-23, who handed them over to the First Order for interrogation. Yeager tried to protect Synara when she was being tortured by the First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny. Kaz and Norath managed to rescue Synara and Yeager with the help of CB-23 and escape, linking up with Ace Squadron and the Colossus.
Despite living together, tensions between Kragan and Captain Doza persisted. Doza despised the pirates while Kragan resented Doza for refusing to treat him with the respect that he believed he deserved as "captain." Kragan and several pirates departed on an unsanctioned trip aboard the Galleon to rendezvous with Sidon Ithano, the "Crimson Corsair." Kragan purchased several B2-series super battle droids as part of his plot to launch a mutiny against Captain Doza.
Captain Doza was unhappy that the Warbirds had taken leave without informing him and confined them to their hangar. He and Yeager assigned the mechanic Neeku Vozo with spying on the pirates. Kragan recruited Neeku into repairing their super battle droids, claiming that they were security units intended to bolster the Colossus' security droids. Suspecting that Kragan was plotting something, Synara warned Kaz.
After Neeku repaired the battle droids, Kragan had him locked into a cell for his own "safety." The Warbirds then captured Synara and Kaz, who had been spying on them. The Warbirds and their droids then launched their mutiny, capturing the corridors, Ace Squadron, and taking Captain Doza, Yeager, and 4D-M1N captive. Kragan intended to force them to walk off the hangar into space.
However, Neeku had anticipated Kragan's plot and had secretly programmed the B1-series battle droid "B1" to free them. Under Neeku's orders, B1 took control of the super battle droids and disarmed the Warbirds with the exception of Synara. Captain Doza wanted to imprison the pirates but Synara convinced Doza to exile her former associates aboard the Galleon, which had its hyperdrive disabled after having their weapons taken. Kragan was bitter that Synara had sided with her Colossus friends but she regarded her debt to him settled and opined that exile was more merciful.
The Warbird gang first appeared in the Star Wars Resistance Season One episode "The Triple Dark," which premiered on Disney XD on October 14, 2018. They appeared as recurrent characters through the series' first and second seasons.
