During the Thrawn campaign, the Wayland insertion group was a team that was given the task to shut down Grand Admiral Thrawn's cloning facility at Mount Tantiss on the planet Wayland.
Following the imprisonment of Mara Jade by the order of Colonel Jak Bremen for a possible implication in an Imperial raid on Coruscant, Jade revealed to Luke Skywalker that she knew the location of Thrawn's cloning facility. Skywalker agreed to liberate her in exchange for the coordinates of Wayland. Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian joined the insertion group, along with R2-D2 and C-3PO. Using the YT-1300 light freighter Millennium Falcon, the insertion group landed on the planet and trekked through the forests of Wayland to Mount Tantiss.
Nearly ten years after the destruction of Mount Tantiss, the Devaronian Pollo Tipn mentioned Wayland insertion group in a preliminary report on the Thrawn campaign for professor Voren Na'al.
