A Weld was the basic structure of Noehon society. Each Weld was held by a physically dominant male known as an "alpha" who ruled over a harem of 10 to 50 subservient females. Males borns in the Weld were often chased away once they reached puberty. Females were added to the Weld by being stolen from the alphas of other Welds.
Alphas were usually only deposed when they became weak enough for an adolescent male to challenge him. Females within the Weld organized themselves in a strict hierarchy with the oldest or longest females occupying the top levels.
