Galaxies is a WookieeProject dedicated to expanding and improving all articles relating to Star Wars's first MMORPG game, Star Wars Galaxies, and its expansions: An Empire Divided, Jump to Lightspeed, Rage of the Wookiees and Trials of Obi-Wan. This also includes Galaxiess spin-offs: The Trading Card Game and tie-in novel.
Haven't played Galaxies? No problem. Please see "Our Mission" below and article instructions. Project: Galaxies follows Wookieepedia's statement of "anyone could edit." If you are willing to join, then please sign your name in our "Participants" section at the bottom.
As many already know, Sony Online Entertainment terminated Star Wars Galaxies on December 11, 2011. SOE's decision does not automatically mean that all is lost for Galaxiess articles on Wookieepedia. We, as a collective group, are dedicated and passionate about Star Wars's first MMORPG and we are willing to maintain and promote Galaxies-related articles. Anything from the 2003 launch, An Empire Divided, the 2004 expansion Jump to Lightspeed, and the two 2005 expansions Rage of the Wookiees and Trials of Obi-Wan. We are also maintaining Galaxiess spin-offs: The Trading Card Game and tie-in novel.
For those who had played Galaxies, your expertise is absolutely useful to the community. For those who have not, you need not worry, as anyone could join and edit articles. Got a question? Need some assistance with an article? You may ask a knowledgeable participant or use this project's talk page.
This section will layout some of the guidelines that need to be followed when creating and nominating a SWG-related article.
- This should go without saying, but first and foremost, all articles should conform to both the Manual of Style and the Layout Guide whenever possible.
- The player must be referred to as the/a/group of "spacer(s)" and you should remain gender-neutral when referring to the player. Using terms such as "they" and "their" in reference to the player will suffice on a temporary basis but will likely not be accepted during the review processes of the Comprehensive, Good, and Featured article nominations. Other words may be used in reference to the player, such as sentient and mercenary.
- Since at current there is no known source of when precisely the events of Star Wars Galaxies take place, exact dating can not be used. However, it is known that the events of the game take place shortly after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope but before the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. Because of this, when referencing when the events of the article took place, it is best to use wording such as "shortly after the Battle of Yavin" or something similar. Vaguely dating it sometime in 1 ABY is suitable as well.
- Anything created by a player within the game is not considered canon (including player characters and items) unless it has been added to the game by the developers. Any article that is about user-generated content added to the game by the developers should always note this fact. (Examples include Anj'a, Intense Performer, The March to Restuss and so on).
- Since the game is no longer active, it is recommended that the behind the scenes sections be written in past tense along with the rest of the article.
This section will explain a few things about finding information about article subjects within the game.
- As the game is no longer active, your ability to retrieve information from it may be limited. If you still have the game installed on your computer (or are still in possession of the install discs), you can extract various files and information from the game's archives. Tools such as TRE Explorer will allow you to open and navigate the .tre archive files used by the game. Please note that you may have difficulty opening more recent .tre files with this tool. Additional tools may be required to open the various file formats contained within the archives.
- The official Star Wars Galaxies website and the majority of fan sites and gameplay information sites have been shut down since the termination of the game. The Internet Archive's Wayback Machine may have archived versions of these sites if you have a URL to enter for them.
- Several Star Wars Galaxies emulation projects have sprung up over the years. The most advanced one is SWGEmu. Their site contains tutorials on how to access their servers and you will need a copy of the game's installation discs to do so. Since their goal is only to emulate the SWG server environment and not add or modify existing content, using their emulator to gather data is fine as far as canon goes. Do note that they are only emulating up to the Publish 14.1 game update, which was released in March2005, so a majority of later content is not present.
The following templates should be used whenever adding Star Wars Galaxies or one of its expansions to the appearances or sources list of an article.
Please note that Jump to Lightspeed, Rage of the Wookiees, and Trials of Obi-Wan automatically link to their corresponding article:
The following templates should be used whenever adding Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game or one of its expansions to the appearances or sources list of an article (remember to replace "InsertCardNameHere" with the card name):
Star Wars Galaxies featured many iconic faces, such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader and Princess Leia. Each had their own storyline in Galaxies, although their character as a whole (anything outside Galaxies) are not part of this project's focus. For all articles that appear in Galaxies series, their related and corresponding sections should be maintained. It should also be noted that, while the project aims to cover many subjects appearing in the MMORPG, we cannot cover every single person, place, or thing that appears. Furthermore, it is improper to try to use this project to focus on subjects that extensively appear elsewhere.
When tagging talk pages, please do not confuse Project: Galaxies with Project: Video Games nor the Galactic Empire-focused Project: Ambition. We are strictly Star Wars Galaxies focused. Please see our goals above.
Please add articles that you are working on and list your name next to them. Once an article has been nominated for Featured/Good/Comprehensive status, move it to the appropriate section below.
These pages are works in progress and are not complete. If you find an item from Star Wars Galaxies please put it on the appropriate master list. You are welcome to create and/or expand a section, if necessary.
What we have achieved so far. These articles should be maintained, to keep them at a high quality. So far we have taken three articles to Featured status, eight articles to Good status, and twenty-eight articles to Comprehensive status.
Paste {{WPSWGtalk}} onto the talk pages of any articles relating to the project so that others may get involved. Make sure you have read the "Choosing an article" section above to determine which articles to use the template on.
