Xylan Graf was a human male physicist and member of the Graf family who lived during the time of the High Republic Era. He was present alongside the hauler Sylvestri Yarrow on the capital planet Coruscant. Yarrow considered Graf highly attractive, but did not like his personality.
Xylan Graf first appeared in the novel The High Republic: Out of the Shadows, written by Justina Ireland and published on July 27, 2021 as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative's Phase I. Graf was first pictured in an episode of Star Wars: The High Republic Show on September 15, 2021, with art designed by MinJi Yoon.
In the first draft of Out of the Shadows, Ireland expected Sylvestri Yarrow to be in a love triangle that included her ex-girlfriend, Jordanna Sparkburn, and Graf. After beginning to write, however, Ireland determined that neither Yarrow nor herself particularly liked Graf, and dropped the idea halfway through the first draft. Ireland described most of Graf's outfits as an homage to Prince and Jem and the Holograms.
