The lyrics were penned by the duo of Ken and Mitzie Welch, and the music was an adapted version of John Williams's iconic Star Wars main theme. Writer Bruce Vilanch stated that Fisher was adamant about singing in the Holiday Special, and she even played some songs for him on the piano. The initial recording of the piece was included on a CD that came with the 2007 publication, The Star Wars Vault.
