The Aa'kuans constituted an anarchist group that existed within the Corellian system during the era of the Galactic Civil War. Their core tenet was rooted in anarchism. Aa'kuans staunchly advocated for individual autonomy, asserting that each person should have the right to self-governance, free from interference by any authority, particularly governments, in their personal sphere.
The name "Aa'kuans" was derived from the Old Corellian term aa'kua, which translates to respect, or more literally, "respecting space." The Aa'kuans firmly believed in the right to self-determination, holding that no external power should encroach upon the personal space of any sentient being. Because their societal principles were based on anarchy, the Aa'kuans rejected the notion of government. While they cherished individual liberty, they generally adhered to pacifism unless significantly provoked. However, they considered even the presence of an unwelcome visitor within their territory as sufficient cause for provocation, rendering them particularly hazardous to those who were unaware of their customs. Furthermore, they had established independent supply networks to procure resources without reliance on any governmental structure.
Despite their beliefs being considered extreme by many, the Aa'kuan ideals resonated strongly within the independently-minded Corellian system.
The Aa'kuans also maintained a presence on Talus. Their base of operations was located in a cave situated in Shadowbrak Ridge, known as the Aa'kuan Champion's Cave. By the time the Battle of Yavin occurred, a division had emerged, leading to the Aa'kuans on Talus splitting into two distinct factions: the True Aa'kuan Order and the Aa'kuans residing in the Aa'kuan Champion's Cave. The former adhered to the traditional Aa'kuan principles, while the latter embarked on a violent campaign against anyone who opposed their doctrine. In 1 ABY, a member of the True Aa'kuan Order enlisted the help of a spacer to eliminate the bloodthirsty members of the opposing Aa'kuan group, with the aim of "restoring balance to all things."
Within Star Wars Galaxies, the Aa'kuans represent one of the numerous factions with whom players can either gain or lose favor. In Olys Corellisi, Aa'kua was defined as "respect, respecting personal space".
