AC1 surveillance droid

AC1 surveillance droids, alternatively known as "Spy-eyes," Surveillance remote droids, or security remotes, were essentially mobile surveillance units, equipped with a degree of intelligence, functioning as holocams.

These droids incorporated a repulsorlift propulsion system, a visual holocam capable of 180-degree rotation and simultaneous holotransmitter functionality, along with a holo receiver. Their speed was comparable to that of a Human, and they moved with exceptional quietness, utilizing rapid zig-zag movements that rendered them nearly invisible to most species. The holotransmitter enabled continuous live image transmission to a security officer's holo display within a 500-meter radius, within which the security officer could also remotely control the droid via joystick. These droids possessed limited intelligence and no discernible personality. Their primary function was to record and transmit visual recordings of suspects, along with their location, to a central surveillance hub, after which they would conceal themselves until receiving new instructions or being taken over remotely. Some units present at the Battle of Hoth were armed with a light blaster.

History

The Empire deployed them on the Death Star I and during the Battle of Hoth; furthermore, the Alliance utilized them as forward scouts.

During an ambush on Tirahnn where Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa were attacked by Catuman warriors, R2-D2 accessed one of the local security's "spy-eyes" in order to locate them within the gigantic city. This action enabled Han Solo and Chewbacca to arrive in time to provide assistance.

The Imperial agent Blackhole also made use of these droids, employing a network of them to monitor Luke Skywalker's movements on Vorzyd V in 1 ABY without Luke's knowledge. Ultimately, agents working for the Vorzydiak president destroyed them.

Ree Shala modified an AC1, equipping it with dual fire-linked DL-44 blasters and reinforced armor. This modified unit was stationed at Shala's base, intended to ambush anyone investigating the smuggler.
