Alexandre Desplat

Alexandre Michel Gerard Desplat, a composer from France, creates music for films. He has been nominated for numerous Academy Awards for his musical compositions, and he won for his work on the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel.

On March 15, 2015, Desplat announced that he would be composing the musical score for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a standalone Star Wars movie. He had previously worked with the director, Gareth Edwards, on the film Godzilla. Ultimately, due to conflicts in his schedule, Michael Giacchino took over from Desplat as the composer during the post-production phase of the film. This change, involving both Desplat and Giacchino, represented the first instance where John Williams was not the composer for a live-action Star Wars film released in theaters. Williams had composed the music for the initial seven live-action films, starting with Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope in 1977.
