The All Terrain Experimental Transport (AT-XT) represented an experimental armored assault walker utilized by the Grand Army of the Republic during the period of the Clone Wars. Functioning as a precursor, it paved the way for the development of the AT-RT and AT-ST, with the latter seeing widespread deployment by the forces of the Galactic Empire.
The AT-XT's armament included a set of twin laser cannons positioned beneath its forward section, along with a pair of long-range proton mortar launchers.
Furthermore, certain AT-XT units incorporated a plasma shield as a defensive system, enabling them to withstand incoming enemy fire for a brief duration. Despite its relatively modest maximum speed of seventy-five kilometers per hour—only fifteen kilometers per hour exceeding the AT-TE and a mere five kilometers per hour faster than the typical speed of the AT-RT—it possessed the capability to obliterate entire enemy formations.
The AT-XT units were instrumental in bringing the Dark Reaper Project to an end. They participated in the battles fought on Rhen Var and Thule.
While demonstrating high effectiveness in combat situations, the AT-XT never entered mass production due to continuous refinements and enhancements to its design and combat capabilities by its designers. Although its combat deployment didn't match the scale of the AT-TE or AT-RT, the AT-XT's design significantly influenced Imperial engineers, serving as inspiration for the AT-ST walker, which saw extensive use throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War.
Beyond its influence on vehicle design, a number of AT-XT models remained in service with the Galactic Empire, primarily for research and development activities.
Eventually, even the Rebellion managed to capture some of these vehicles and deploy them in various sieges, challenging any AT-STs stationed there.
