An Allied Command designated the local planetary and sector administrations that formed an alliance with the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the time of the Galactic Civil War. Each of these Allied Commands mirrored the governmental framework established by the Alliance Civil Government, and they were accountable to this Civil Government on significant issues. However, each of these Commands was granted a certain level of independence and self-governance when it came to waging war within their designated area of influence.
The Chief Executive was the head of each Allied Command, and they were assisted by the Allied Cabinet, which included the Secretary of the Allied Cabinet, along with the Secretaries of Education, Finance, Industry, State, Supply, and War. While the structure of each Allied Command was similar to that of the Civil Government, the way in which the Command operated differed. A variety of political and sociological factors contributed to this. Before joining the Alliance, some Allied Commands already had functioning governments in place, while the political systems and mentalities of some alien species were drastically different, making it impossible for them to function within the Alliance's strict command structure. Existing command structures were maintained to the greatest extent feasible.
The Allied Commands themselves were responsible for filling the positions within their ranks, and the methods used to fill these positions varied considerably. In some Commands, the Chief Executive was the ruler of a planet, and the ruler's family members served as Cabinet members. Some people were either elected by the planet's citizens or appointed to their positions. The positions were chosen at random in one unusual instance, by means of a lottery. In some instances, the Chief Executive might be a group rather than a single person, such as a hive mind or a board of directors. Many beings may have control over Cabinet seats at once, or one being may have been in charge of several positions. The Alliance was indifferent to the executive's method of operation as long as it was effective. If a Minister of the Alliance Cabinet could contact their counterpart Secretary on any given Allied Cabinet and receive a prompt, accurate response to their inquiry, they were indifferent as to whether the Secretary was male, female, alien, droid, group, sub-committee, board, or hive.
