Amphibious fighter
The amphibious fighter, sometimes called an amphib, was a submersible starship design created by the Calamarians and employed throughout the Clone Wars.
History
A number of amphib fighters, alongside droid fighters, were given to Commander Merai so he could launch an assault on the primary reactor located in Tipoca City on Kamino. The expectation was that a successful attack would cut off the Republic's clone supply. Consequently, Merai commenced his offensive, pitting his amphib fighters against the Jedi who were using Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors to defend Tipoca.
What came to be called the Battle of Kamino initially looked like a likely win for Merai, but his primary ship was destroyed. Merai then commandeered his personal amphib fighter, the Shark, and attempted to destroy the reactor himself. After discovering that the information that led to his mission was incorrect, he altered his strategy. He resolved to destroy the hyperdrive docking rings belonging to the Jedi ships in orbit around Kamino, with the aim of preventing the Separatist forces from being chased into hyperspace. To ensure a degree of success, Merai initiated the self-destruction of the Shark.
