Ardiff was a male human who achieved the rank of captain in the Galactic Empire's Imperial Navy. He held the position of commanding officer aboard the well-known flagship, the Chimaera-class Star Destroyer of the Imperial II variety. In the time frame approaching the peace agreement between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant, and the whispers of Grand Admiral Thrawn's rumored comeback nineteen years after the Battle of Yavin, Ardiff served with unwavering dedication to his superior, Supreme Commander of the Imperial Fleet Gilad Pellaeon, although he harbored reservations about Pellaeon's planned discussions and the eventual treaty with the New Republic. At the time of the signing of the Pellaeon–Gavrisom Treaty, he was in command of the Chimaera.
Timothy Zahn's 1997 novel, Specter of the Past, marked Ardiff's initial appearance. He subsequently made an appearance in the 1998 novel Vision of the Future. During the Battle of Pesitiin, Ardiff takes Pellaeon's place as he expressed concerns to his superior regarding the strategies being employed.
