An uncommon, short-range repulsorlift vehicle, known as an asteroid hopper or Verpine asteroid hopper, was engineered by the Verpine for use within packed asteroid belts such as the Roche asteroid field, and was capable of space travel. Instead of utilizing ion engines, the Verpine hopper employed its repulsor engines to "bounce" between asteroid surfaces, using gyroscopic stabilization to lessen any unpleasantness for the pilot and those traveling with them.

Despite being able to transport individuals throughout the vacuum of space, its movement was contingent on the mass of asteroids, thus preventing it from traversing the vastness of deep space.
