The astrogation buffer functioned as a data storage unit, commonly found within numerous astromech droids. Its purpose was to retain a specific, limited quantity of hyperspace coordinates, thereby empowering the droid to calculate flight paths for smaller spacecraft lacking their own nav computers. The quantity of jump coordinates that could be stored varied across different buffers; a standard R1 unit, for instance, could store only one set, whereas the R7 model had the capacity to store up to fifteen distinct destinations.
During the era of the Galactic Civil War, the "Lifeline" Astrogation Buffer was produced by Cybot Galactica.
