In the early days of 20 BBY, accusations arose that the Galactic Republic initiated an attack against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, resulting in numerous deaths, notably that of influential Separatist Senator Mina Bonteri. Conversely, Republic spies claimed Separatist operatives were responsible for Bonteri's demise, prompting Count Dooku, the Confederate Head of State, to retract Bonteri's peace proposal that was put forth by the Separatist Parliament.
