AV-1A Assault Armor
The AV-1A Assault Armor, a product of GTU, represented a significant advancement in powered armor technology, blurring the lines between traditional armor and a small vehicle. This large and sophisticated suit, developed prior to the Clone Wars, was designed for military applications; however, its substantial cost hindered widespread adoption. The base model retailed for 50,000 credits, roughly equivalent to the price of a starfighter, and required a similar degree of specialized training for effective operation. Despite the cost, its effectiveness was undeniable. It was one variant within the AV-1 power armor family.
Characteristics
The armor's construction centered around a core shell that housed the user and much of the suit's internal electronics. This included six standard power packs, which provided up to twelve hours of operational power. The suit featured a fully sealed environment with an internal air supply, providing life support and protection against extreme conditions, including the vacuum of space, as long as power was available.
The GTU AV-1A incorporated advanced systems for a suit of its kind. Its sensor suite was effective in both low-light and no-light environments, offering visual amplification comparable to electrobinoculars. The integrated power lamp could project a beam of light reaching 100 meters in length and 50 meters in width. The suit could interface with up to three mounted weapons via an integrated targeting computer to enhance accuracy, while a built-in comlink enabled encrypted communication at distances up to 100 kilometers.
Heavy armored plating encased the central shell, providing complete coverage for the operator's limbs, features, and internal systems. This plating offered exceptional protection, unparalleled for personal armor, while powered servos amplified the operator's strength by more than double. A significant drawback was the suit's weight and bulk when unpowered, which severely hampered the user's mobility.
In combat, the operator could utilize the suit's versatility by mounting up to three separate weapons on the integrated weapon mounts, each capable of supporting weapons as large as blaster cannons. When linked to the suit's targeting systems, the operator could deliver immense firepower while withstanding significant incoming damage.
Despite its considerable size, the powered servos allowed the operator to move with near-normal agility, experiencing only a slight reduction in speed. Like other GTU AV powered armor models, the 1A Assault Armor included a repulsorlift system, enabling flight at walking speed with a maximum altitude of approximately one kilometer. However, its maneuverability was less than lighter models. Maneuvering thrusters allowed the suit to maintain flight capabilities in zero-G environments, enabling operation in almost any location.
During combat, the suit monitored the operator's vital signs and could administer a single dose of emergency medication to sustain life. In critical situations, an ejection system could be activated, separating the suit and propelling the operator away. While the suit could be recovered, the process was typically expensive.
History
During a series of riots in Hreas Port City, five suits of this armor were deployed. The Galactic Empire intervened to quell the unrest. TriNebulon News reported on the incident.
