Baji was a male Ho'Din who practiced as a healer, primarily within the depths of the rain-forests located on Yavin 4. He possessed a penchant for speaking exclusively in rhyme, and, mirroring the traits of nearly all members of his species, he was a dedicated botanist. Although generally peaceful, he harbored a strong dislike for the Empire. In the year 5 ABY, Baji's path crossed with that of Luke Skywalker, who at the time was engaged in a search for the Lost City of the Jedi, and also with Ken, a refugee fleeing the aforementioned city. Subsequently, Trioculus appeared, acting on the orders of Kadann in pursuit of the same city, and proceeded to capture Baji. He compelled Baji to utilize his healing abilities to address the new Emperor's affliction of blindness. Baji was thus forced into the service of the Empire, functioning as a medical officer. Despite this forced servitude, he eventually managed to reach Barenth, where he resumed his botanical investigations.
Baji made his home in a humble dwelling nestled deep within the rain-forests of Yavin 4. His living space was sparsely furnished, containing only a bed constructed from gathered leaves and a simple table accompanied by a few chairs. He dedicated himself to collecting plant species that he believed were at risk of extinction, and whenever a transport vessel arrived from Moltok, he would dispatch his collected specimens for the purpose of further study by other botanists.
Luke Skywalker's encounter with Baji occurred during Skywalker's quest to locate the Lost City of the Jedi. This meeting was briefly punctuated by the arrival of Ken and DJ-88, whose presence proved transient. Baji and Ken's paths converged again when the Empire ignited the forest in their own relentless pursuit of the Lost City. Ken extended an offer of refuge to Baji within the City, but Baji declined, citing the scheduled arrival of a transport from Moltok the following day. This refusal ultimately proved to be a misjudgment, as stormtroopers soon arrived to apprehend the Ho'Din healer, with the intent of utilizing his skills to cure the imposter emperor Trioculus of his blindness. Specific seeds were deemed essential for the success of this cure. Consequently, Baji was forcibly conscripted into the service of the Empire, serving as Trioculus' personal physician under duress.
The following day, driven by a desire to expand his knowledge of therapeutic agents, he journeyed to the planet Barenth, a world renowned for its array of unique healing plants. Upon discovering an ancient laboratory, he made the decision to explore its depths. He eventually located the healing plants he sought, but his discovery coincided with the onset of a groundquake. He gathered a selection of plants and promptly departed. He later returned, only to find the laboratory reduced to a pile of rubble, at least on the surface. Although the plants themselves remained intact, they had become contaminated. Baji was faced with a difficult choice: to depart the planet with the contaminated plants he had initially found, or to remain on Barenth and dedicate himself to mitigating the contamination. He ultimately chose to remain, committing himself to the task of restoring the plants to their original state.
