Barkale

Before the pivotal Battle of Yavin, Barkale enjoyed considerable popularity within Kintoni's political circles and was a familiar face at prestigious social gatherings. It was at one such event that Emperor Palpatine himself drew Mara Jade's attention to the governor, identifying him as someone of significance to observe.

Following the demise of Palpatine, Barkale eventually yielded to the Rebel Alliance forces, commanded by General Crix Madine. Madine's forces liberated Kintoni, and Barkale was subsequently placed under house arrest. As a prisoner, Barkale proved uncooperative, fully aware that the Alliance, despite their suspicions, lacked sufficient definitive proof of his misdeeds to formally accuse him. He persistently demanded his immediate release.

Later, Mara Jade, who happened to be on Kintoni while evading forces loyal to Ysanne Isard, rescued Barkale. He escorted her to his clandestine residence at 455 Tinegris Street, where he unveiled a substantial accumulation of Imperial credits illicitly diverted from the sector treasury. This financial extraction had been executed in anticipation of the Rebel liberation of Kintoni. He also displayed a collection of unique artwork, boasting that it included some of the most prized pieces outside the Emperor's personal collection.

However, when Barkale proposed to generously compensate Mara for her assistance, she unexpectedly turned the situation around. She revealed that he had been under suspicion for submitting fraudulent reports and secretly embezzling funds from his treasury for several months, clarifying that she had been assigned to investigate him. When Barkale attempted to resist, she charged him with treasonous embezzlement and immediately carried out his death sentence.

Following Barkale's execution, Mara provided Madine with the location of his townhouse and his unlawfully obtained wealth, which Madine then seized for the benefit of the Alliance.
