D8-Red Base, an Imperial installation under the control of the Ubiqtorate, was situated on a secure planetoid located within the Ringali Shell region of the galaxy. Established by 0 ABY, this base served as a central hub for Imperial clandestine and secret activities within the Core Worlds. Furthermore, it functioned as the primary departure point for missions extending into the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. D8-Red accommodated a large number of Imperial Intelligence agents, numbering in the thousands. It also maintained a contingent of several hundred SpecNav Force troopers, a highly skilled unit within the Imperial Navy. A group of scientists and engineers were also stationed at D8-Red, dedicated to the development of innovative weaponry intended for use in covert actions.
The initial reference to Base D8-Red occurred in The Far Orbit Project, a 1998 publication authored by Timothy S. O'Brien. This book supplemented Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, produced by West End Games.
