Battle of the Rebel stronghold

The clash at the Rebel stronghold represents one engagement within the broader context of the Galactic Civil War, occurring in 3 ABY. The ultimate outcome was the obliteration of the Rebel stronghold itself.

Prelude

Darth Vader, the Sith Lord, was actively searching throughout the Outer Rim for any signs of Rebel Alliance presence. Upon discovering a stronghold, he immediately commanded Vice Admiral Thrawn to deploy his TIE Squadrons without delay, fully aware that the Rebels were unprepared for such an assault.

Concurrently, Emperor Palpatine delivered an announcement concerning the impending triumph of the Galactic Empire, pointing to Vader's success in locating Rebel insurgents as evidence of this victory.

Battle

Upon their arrival at the stronghold, Thrawn gave the order to initiate the attack, confident that the rebels had no chance of survival.

The Imperial forces overwhelmed the Rebel defenses, leading to the station's destruction. Although two fighters attempted to flee, their efforts were futile as two TIE Interceptors intercepted and destroyed them.

The rebel station is destroyed.

Aftermath

The specific details of the events that followed remain somewhat unclear, however, it was definitively established that the Imperials had secured a strategic position within that particular sector.

Behind the scenes

This battle is depicted in the introductory cinematic sequence of the game. The station's designation has never been formally revealed.

The introductory scene exists in two distinct versions: the initial version features a brief skirmish showcasing an attack run on a stationary X-wing by a trio of TIE Interceptors, while a turret attempts to defend, albeit unsuccessfully. The cutscene then progresses to show the station undergoing continuous explosions, culminating in the detachment of one of the bays from the station while also exploding, the two fighters attempting to escape are both X-wings.

In the Collector's Edition, the Interceptors' attack run is executed from a greater distance, followed by a TIE Bomber conducting a bombing run on the X-wing and turret, launching various projectiles at the bomber. The station experiences only one or two explosions, and the escaping fighters consist of an X-wing and an A-wing.
